Ofsted pours praise on “exceptional” and “inspiring” Fox Grove School
Inspectors judge Leatherhead-based academy as outstanding in all areas
A Leatherhead academy is an “exceptional school” according to Ofsted. Following a two-day visit, inspectors judged Fox Grove school on Kingston Road to be “Outstanding” in all categories.
Part of The Howard Partnership Trust, a values driven multi-academy trust which aims to bring out the best of every child in their schools, Fox Grove is a special school that seeks to promote a sense of safety, belonging and trust. During the recent inspection, Ofsted found the school to be a “thriving community” where pupils “relish their learning across a breadth of subjects.” The report pours praise on staff, students, trustees and governors for creating a school that is:
- An inspirational place – “The school is ambitious for every pupil. Through the exceptionally strong and trusting relationships with staff, pupils relish their learning across a breadth of subjects. As a result, pupils learn how to communicate their feelings and ideas very well.”
- Delivering a strong curriculum – “Leaders have meticulously designed a curriculum that provides pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to flourish and achieve. Pupils are taught essential communication, reading and numeracy skills. They also learn to be part of a thriving community, through developing independence and personal skills.”
- Modelling exemplary behaviour – “Pupils demonstrate an exceptional sense of belonging, pride and self-worth, understanding the overwhelmingly positive contribution that they make to their community. As a result, the school provides a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, including those with the most complex needs.”
- Promoting partnership between staff and parents– “Regular contact between key staff and parents means that support for pupils is seamless between the school and home. The result is that everyone understands the importance of being at school. When needed, staff support parents to establish routines at home, such as with sleeping and attending medical appointments. Parents appreciate this partnership.”
Marie O Rourke, Principal of Fox Grove, says, “We’re proud of the inclusive, inspiring and nurturing community that our school has grown to be. Each of our pupils matters to us and every member of staff is committed to helping them feel valued. We’re pleased that Ofsted has recognised that Fox Grove is a place where every pupil can grow their love of learning and gain the confidence to tackle any challenges they face.”
The report also praises The Howard Partnership Trust, noting how they “provide expertise and support in equal measure. They share the same vision of enabling pupils to flourish in their learning in preparation for life after education.”
